Searching a Great Perhaps

Looking for Alaska

Summary of this week´s chapters

This is the new book I am reading and it is about this boy, Miles Halter, who goes to Culver Creek (a boarding school) to search for his great perhaps. He meets his new rommate who is Chip Martin but there they called him "The Colonel". The Colonel introduces Culver to Miles and gives him a nickname which is Pudge. The Colonel then introduces Alaska to Pudge and he sorts of fells in love with her. In Culver, they divided themselves between Weekday Warriors (the rich people) and the normal people (normal economic class). The Colonel hated the Weekday Warriors although he has a weekday warrior girlfriend. The people on Culver liked to smoke although it was not allowed and Pudge did not liked it, on of his hobbies was knowing the people last words. One day, the weekday warriors take Pudge to make a prank they do to all newcomers but they tied him up and he could have died and the reason was that he hanged out with the colonel and the colonel supposedly ratted up a weekday warrior couple that were kicked out, Paul and Mayra, but its not true so the Colonel tries to find out who was and who incriminated him.

My face figuring out Alaska´s personality.

 Important quotes

"And his last word were´I go to seek a great perhaps. That´s why I am going" (Green 5).

I think is so increidible how Miles is so passionate to find his great perhaps. I like how the author uses indirect characterization to show how Miles is passionate and a dreamer. I wish I could be so passionate about something like Miles. I think I want to find that great perhaps but first I need to know more about what it means.

"Y´all smoke to enjoy it. I smoke to die" (Green 44).

I think that what Alaska said here is very deep. I think what she is trying to say is that maybe she is dying her own way by smoking. Or maybe she is trying to say that she doesn´t like to smoke and she only smokes to maybe escape from reality. I think that later when Alaska´s personality starts to reveal more this quote would be more clear.

Final thoughts

I really like this book since is like a teen book. Since is a teen book like I can relate a lot more things. I also like that the perspective from where the story is told is from Miles. By having Pudge as the narrator we can see more of his feelings and actually feel like I am part of the book and I am living the story. This is actually like one of the firsts books I can concentrate on and not think about other things.
This is me reading how cute Pudge is.
